Sławomir Mrożek’s 'The Emigrants’ is now considered classics. The performance will be an attempt to interpret the text in a new way by throwing it into a contemporary context. The play tells a story of two characters, who have to leave the country ruled by totalitarian system, where freedom of speech does not exist, where political provocateurs can be easily met, where one can be persecuted for one’s own believes.

In the performance, we try to put aside the communistic context of the play. Nowadays, the Polish emigrant leaves the country for better work and better money. The consumptionism replaced ideology. Unfortunately, not so far away – just behind our Eastern border – there are still resons for political emigration…

The universal truths in the drama are expressed when two characters of the play confront a foreign world. Condemned to live together, they seem to be addicted to each other. And at that point the question arises, whether it is possible for two different attitudes to meet, to cross one’s own limitations, and to really see the other person…
