Chernobyl. Last Minute
After Chernobyl, time bit its own tail. The beginning and the end joined together. The Chernobyl man took a swipe at everything. The new world blew brains out and… man suddenly started to think. He leaned against nothingness and… hysterical laughter began.
“Chernobyl. Last minute” is a play which arose from performative reading of an adaptation of “The Chernobyl Prayer. A Chronicle of the Future” by Svetlana Alexievich. It is an attempt to take a closer look at the effects of the explosion of April 28, 1986 from both, the human and the political points of view. We would like to invite everyone to the Chernobyl Museum which will visit the Drama Theater in Białystok. A story of contemporary apocalypse, which was nearly absurd, awaits you! Let us begin!
A 12-second-long fragment of a speech by the Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko, relating to the future construction of a nuclear power plant was used in the performance. It was announced during one of the presidential visits to the region which suffered from the Chernobyl disaster.
